Middletown North won its first showdown of the season with its crosstown rival Middletown South on Monday with a score of 49-42. North came in losers of its last three and a 5-6 overall record, compared with a surprising Eagles team at 7-4 on a winning streak.
Each side was sold out at game time. North Nation (@NorthNation1) was in black, and South Nation in Blue.
Middletown North had one of its hot first quarters, racing out to a 9-6 lead. Entering the second is where North has struggled this season in the middle quarters of the game. This was not the case though as North had a double digit lead at 24-14 at one point before ending the half up 8 at 24-16.
The dreaded third quarter showed its ugly face again as North was outscored 13-7 and was a 31-29 game entering the fourth. North’s last loss to Colts Neck was due in large part to a 2 point third quarter, they scored less than 6 against CBA in that third quarter.
Although any chance of a loss was soon put to rest as a high scoring fourth gave Middletown North a 49-42 victory. The win moved North to 6-6 and South to 7-5.
The only other meeting of the teams will be the last game of the year at Middletown South on February 8.
