The great experiment began at Middletown North. On September 10th, after the longest summer vacation in recent memory, Middletown High School North went back to school. However the 2012-2013 school years will be different from all the others prior. The adaptation of Block scheduling to Middletown North, some argue to be rushed into, has redefined the school day. As periods are replaced by blocks, and lunch is transformed into “high school recess”, students and teachers have quickly adapted to the new norm. Moreover, many seniors particularly have asked the question, “Why “, “Why this year”. In a sense, we are all freshman again. As the day to day activity of students is altered, those who are enrolled in vocational education as well as Dual enrollment at Brookdale community college are facing difficult challenges with their schedules. Ultimately, Block scheduling is new, and as the year progresses, the adaptive policies of school officials should ensure the well-being of students.
