Middletown– Middletown North was defeated by cross-town rival Middletown South on Thanksgiving, by the score of 21-0.
In a tough defensive battle for most of the contest, South outlasted North en route to victory.
South quarterback Howie Brey and wide receiver Matt LaMattina, both seniors, connected six times for 135 yards, including the first score of the game by way of an 87 yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.
After the first score of the game, junior quarterback Cody Thompson led North on their longest drive of the day, ranging from their own 29 yard line to the South Eagles’ 11. Unfortunately, a couple of North mistakes prevented them from scoring on the drive, relinquishing the best opportunity they had throughout the game.
It was another tough loss to rival South, and it pushed North’s record to 4-6 to close the season. Despite the losing record, head coach Joe Trezza says North’s fans should be proud of the way the team progressed throughout the season. He said, “We had a lot of ups and downs this season, but we felt we continued to get better each week.”
Despite the loss, North showed determination by giving a great effort and keeping up with South’s pace for most of the game. The defense was stingy and did all they could to try to help the team win.
The season may have ended in a loss, but there are many positives take into next year.
