One of the biggest events of the year, not only for New Jersey, but for the rest of America, took place from June to August. On July 24th, Vans Warped Tour, the gigantic music festival, made its way to Oceanport.
On this hot late July day thousands of people from all over New Jersey came as one to meet up with fellow fans of their favorite bands at Monmouth Racetrack.
The day started at 11 in the morning and had no definite ending time, although the last band was set to play at 8:15 PM.
Some of the biggest names in “underground” music attended, such as A Day To Remember, Gym Class Heroes, Go Radio, and Simple Plan. Even some up and coming bands were in attendance, such as So Long Arletta.
A new addition to the festival was the free water refill stations. It the past, it cost money to stay properly hydrated. but this year they were giving away all the water one could ask for.
However, Warped is not all about the music. Tents were set up on the lots with everything from clothing lines, body jewelry, body painting and seven-string guitars. Other tents had bands singing throughout the day. Even Jeffree Star made a surprise appearance at the tent of a new clothing line, “Blush.”
A major problem, though, was the heat. The skyrocketing temperatures caused several people to pass out, while they were just taking it easy or with the crowd.
This festival is not only a place to see some familiar music, it’s where people can make friends, meet artists, and fall in love with a new band. For most, it’s a day worth looking forward to with great memories for the rest of the year.
Warped will return to New Jersey and other places all over the country next summer.
