The first season of HBO Max’s “The White Lotus” follows a woman grieving the loss of her mother, a couple on their honeymoon and a family vacationing in Hawaii. However, these vacations prove to be disastrous for all, leaving everyone feeling uneasy.
Season one takes place in Hawaii at the White Lotus Hotel with Armond, the hotel manager, stuck dealing with all of the hotel’s responsibilities and issues alone. Five years sober, the stress of the guests has become unbearable and his frustration grows as the vacations continue.
Jennifer Coolidge plays Tanya McQuoid, a woman grieving the loss of her mother and escaping on an island getaway to scatter her mother’s ashes in the ocean and clear her mind. She meets a masseuse that works in the hotel and adores her presence which results in a lasting companionship.
A couple on their honeymoon is spending their vacation at the White Lotus as well when issues arise due to the room that they booked. The husband and hotel manager butt heads all season as they both believe that the other is out to get them. While the wife tries to enjoy the vacation by the pool, her husband will not let the debacle go.
The last group on this trip that the show follows is a rich family of four who brought along their daughter’s friend. While the father suffers a health scare, the daughter and her friend are using drugs that they smuggled on the trip. However, the bag that they store the drugs in has gone missing and the girls are frantically trying to find it. They are struck with a tragic event that ultimately brings their family together and bonds them after a troubled vacation.
When everyone’s vacation seems to be going awry, the hotel faces a tragedy that shakes the guests and staff. A relaxing vacation in Hawaii turns to disaster and many lives are affected drastically. “The White Lotus” not only debuts the beautiful location, but also creates suspense and drama that keeps viewers engaged throughout.
