The Middletown High School North Baseball team has advanced to the Monmouth County Tournament by defeating the Matwan Huskies by a score of 4-3.  Matt Adamson went 1-4 with two RBI and one run to help 17th-seeded Middletown North defeat 16th-seeded Matawan 4-3 in the preliminary round of the Monmouth County Tournament on Monday in Aberdeen.

Karl Strauch was the winning pitcher, going six innings while allowing three hits, two earned runs, four walks, struck out one, and hit two batters.  Middletown North improved their record to 5-5, will travel to face top-seeded Howell in the first round on Saturday.  The Lions are hoping that they can get hot entering postseason play and put together a string of victories.  Head Coach Ryan McCabe, who was a 1st Team All Shore Shortstop for the Lions, believes the Lions are heading in the right direction: “We are hoping to get some players back from injury at key positions and have a good core group with some experience. Kids come to work every day and should continue to improve as the season progresses.”

The upcoming MCT First Round contest between Howell will reveal if the Lions have what it takes to compete at a championship level, as Howell is ranked No. 5 in the Shore Conference with a 9-2 record.
