When the Shore Conference launches its inaugural Girls Flag Football season on May 5, student-athletes from High School North and South will compete against seven other programs situated throughout Monmouth and Ocean County.  The league will feature teams from Holmdel, Matawan, Mater Dei Prep, Pinelands, Shore Regional, High School North, High School South, and an additional combined Middletown team.

The league was made possible through a partnership with the New York Giants, following the franchise’s $64,000 donation to the Shore Conference to fund this 7-on-7 flag-format league. Nike, a partner of the Giants, has announced an additional donation of Nike Women’s Vapor Flag Football Uniforms to each participating team.

High School South head football coach, Steve Antonucci, was integral to the launch of the league, and will coach High School South’s flag football team. High School North head coach, Steve Bush, will head the Lions flag team. High School South assistant coach Marc Tomo will oversee the combined Middletown team.

“The vision is quite simple, to provide an opportunity for every female who ever dreamed of the possibility of playing the great game of football to now have the opportunity to experience it in their own way,” said Antonucci. “We have already seen a tremendous turnout in our schools for this opportunity. I truly believe that the game will be a huge success and I look forward to seeing the girls compete and enjoy what the game has to offer.”

More information is available on the New York Giants official website.
