As the major league baseball season begins to kick into high gear some players are already carving out an early season name for themselves. The 9-8 Mets have two players surpassing expectations. Catcher John Buck leads the league in RBI with 22 and is second in HR with 7 and pitcher Matt Harvey leads the big leagues with 4 wins. Clay Buchholz has a .90 ERA, and Chris Johnson is batting .407.
Meanwhile other teams have had some unfortunate injury news early this year. Yankees star shortstop Derek Jeter remains out until after the all-star break with a new fracture in his ankle. The Blue Jays new shortstop Jose Reyes had a major ankle sprain and will miss 2-3 months. The new look Dodgers lineup now owned by former basketball great Magic Johnson continues to miss 3rd baseman Hanley Ramirez, as made evident by their poor offensive performance so far.
So far this year the MLB has had some surprises like the over achieving Colorado Rockies at 13-5. The Atlanta Braves are trying to build an early lead in the NL East with an MLB best 13-5. No one has been disappointed with this season’s early slate of baseball and it should be a great first half of the year.
