On Tuesday, Middletown North hosted one of the top teams in the Shore in Colts Neck. The 16-3 Cougars were going up against the 10-9 Lions who the Cougars destroyed in this year’s earlier match-up The Lions played a tough game as they were down by only 2 points entering the fourth with a score of 37-35. Although the fourth quarter doomed the Lions, they did not score finishing with a score of 49-35
After the loss, Colts Neck had clinched first in the A- North while the Lions were 10-10 with two games left. With much doubt surrounding the team, North may have had only one game left, making it a must win to get the team into the state and shore conference tournaments. At Freehold Borough, the Lions took care of business, winning with a final score of 48-37. Cody Thompson led the way with 15 points and the Lions 11-10. Due to snow the final game of the season was postponed against rival Middletown South.
In the Shore conference tournament, Middletown North will play Wall on Tuesday at Wall and the winner plays at Lakewood. North plays at Neptune in the first round of the state tournament at 6:00 on Tuesday, February 26.
