The girls cross country started off the season with a win against Manalapan.  The race took place at Holmdel Park, on September 16th.

The team was led by Kerri Powers, who ran her first cross country race ever.  It took her 22:55 to run the difficult Holmdel Park.  For anyone who hasn’t run at Holmdel, the 3.1 mile course is covered by small hills that the runners call “rollercoasters.”  There is also a giant hill during the second mile called “The Bowl” She was followed by junior Anita Zirngibl (23:15), sophomore Kerrin Fitzgerald (23:40) , junior Katie Touhey (24:07), and sophomore Kelli Molnar.

These five girls scored points for the team and was able to walk out of Holmdel 1-0.

The girls first race, the Randolph Invitational was supposed to take place on Saturday, the 12th.  However, the meet, which is NJ’s only night meet, was canceled due to thunderstorms. “We were upset that the meet was canceled, but it only made us more excited to get the season started and run well against Manalapan,” said Katie Touhey, junior on cross country team.

The girls next meet will take place on Saturday, the 19th, at Greystone Park.  It is a class meet and the girls will be running against their perspective grades (Seniors against Seniors, Juniors against Juniors, and so on), instead of Varsity, JV and Freshman.
