It’s been 12 years since Ben Affleck played Matt Murdock on the big screen. Now, Charlie Cox’s version of the character arguably causes fans to forget about Affleck. Set in the same universe as The Avengers, this show is much darker than anything Marvel has ever done. A man’s head is severed with a car door and a fan-favorite ends up being killed off by being strangled in his own home. The IMDb has the show at a 9.2/10, which should be enough to pique your interest and have you consider learning about the tale of “The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen”.
Matt Murdock a.k.a Daredevil is a defense attorney blinded at the age of 9 after saving a man’s life and getting toxic chemicals in his eyes. His father, a boxer named “Battlin’ Jack Murdock”, is struggling to support his family and throws matches to win money. If you saw the 2003 film or know your comic books, you know what happens to Battlin’ Jack. A blind old mentor then teaches Matt to weaponize his disability and Matt became skilled in martial arts. Approximately 20 years later, Matt and his best friend Foggy Nelson have started up “Nelson and Murdock, Attorneys At Law”, where they live their dream of being lawyers. But, after Matt realizes his city of Hell’s Kitchen, New York is appropriately titled, he dons a black suit and works his way to the king of crime in the area, Wilson Fisk (who is portrayed by Law and Order: Criminal Intent’s Vincent D’Onofrio).
Along the way, Matt will meet up with Karen Page, a client who becomes his secretary, Claire Temple (who is played by Rosario Dawson), a night nurse and Ben Urich, a journalist for the New York Bulletin as he realizes that he must take Fisk down. The problem is, Fisk is immensely powerful, having moles in the NYPD and enough money to rule the city.
The odds are against Matt. Will Foggy and Karen learn of his vigilantism? Is Wilson Fisk too powerful to be defeated? Will you be turned away by the darker tone? Find out by watching the show on Netflix today!
